14 months (and five days)

new table and chairs

14 months already! We have quite a few new developments to report.

As you can see from the photo she has discovered the joys of climbing. The other day I found her standing, no dancing, on the (glass) coffee table. She spent the rest of that day getting up there anytime I wasn’t looking and making her cheeky I-know-this-is-naughty-but-it’s-fun noise. Luckily the thrill seems to have passed for now.

Also this week: her first molar finally made its appearance! And a couple of days later I found the second one poking through. Both are on the same side, bottom and top. Hopefully the ones on the other side will follow quickly and then maybe we’ll get a teething break for a bit?

The big news this week is that we finally tackled the night feeding issue. Lillian has always woken 1-3 times a night and the easiest and fastest way to get her back to sleep is to feed her. So I did. But recently the 1-3 times has been more like 3 times sometimes 4 and that meant I wasn’t ever getting more than three hours sleep at a time. Which is tiring and had to stop. So we started by cutting the first feed (usually about 11pm or 12) out for three nights and then went the whole way with no feeds at all before 6am. The first five nights were tough. We had crying screaming for up to an hour and a half at each wake-up. We offered her water, we held her, we sang but it seemed she just needed to exhaust herself before she could go back to sleep. On night 6 we turned a corner and she only woke up once at 3am. She was still awake for over an hour but only cried for the last 20mins or so. From there the next two nights have also had only one wake-up each and the time taken to go back to sleep, and the amount of crying, are getting shorter and shorter. Last night she slept from 7pm to 8am!! With only one quick wake-up just after 12 and a feed just before 6. I hope I haven’t just jinxed this.

Anyway, she’s awake from her nap now so that will have to do.

Briefly

Not a lot has been happening here apart from trying to survive the coming of the molars that will not just come already.

Xanthe has put some great pictures of Lil's party on flickr here.

I haven't taken any new photos for a while but that will be rectified soon. Stay tuned.

Sunday lunch

We enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch with friends at the Woodlands Hotel today. Lillian was happy and charmed the people at the table next to ours. Dave proudly showed her off introduced her to them on our way out.

This afternoon has been a blur of trying to get a very tired Lillian to nap with limited success. She’s now in bed and hopefully staying there until at least 2am. One thing she did enjoy tonight was having her teeth cleaned for the first time. A couple of months ago the health visitor gave us baby toothpaste and a brush and I thought, "Oh, we won’t be needing that for ages!" But here we are and the cleaning will now be a part of the evening routine. Got to keep those little teeth pearly!

We had a weekend to do list with 21 things on it and 13 have been crossed off so that’s not too bad. The list included such exciting things as cut toenails (x30) that we don’t seem to get around to these days! (This was crossed off you will be relieved to hear.)

Photographic evidence

Can you see the teeth?

You might have to make the photo bigger to see them but two little teeth are there on the bottom gum. Let’s hope we have a little break before the next one arrives.

We went to a charity book party this afternoon and I bought this and this for Lil. She got a bit overtired while we were there and a three year old said to me, “She’s quite loud, isn’t she.” Yep.

Tooth No.2

Tooth number two is coming up right next to tooth number one and has been bothering the wee one today. She’s been cranky all afternoon but refusing to go to sleep for her afternoon nap. I’ve finally got her down after two hours of trying. (Ha! Right after typing that she woke up after only 15mins. I re-dummied and she calmed down so fingers crossed.)

It’s another rainy day here but we did get out of the house for a bit and posted off her Australian citizenship application form. She’s on her way to being an Aussie!

The other good news is that she has only been waking once a night for the last few nights. Long may it last.
