Scotland

Three years ago we arrived back in Australia with a nine month old baby Lillian. We’ve now been back for as long as we were there. I heard a Scottish person on the radio today and got a bit nostalgic. I’m looking forward to the day we travel back for a visit and show Lillian her birth place.

Edinburgh

Today we had what will probably be our final visit to Edinburgh, at least for the foreseeable future. No photos were taken of the occasion but the weather was pretty similar to our first visit nearly three years ago:

We went down to put in Lillian’s Australian passport application, which had to be done in person, but also took the chance to have a yummy lunch at Urban Angel. Thanks to Katherine for the recommendation! We shared a selection of six delicious tapas. Lillian especially liked the lime and coriander hummus with flat bread.

Lillian is still sick and still not sleeping well but we did get a six hour stretch last night which was a welcome relief and she napped really well in the car today in both directions. Dave now has the same cold and I have the beginnings of it so it’s all a bit miserable here at the moment.

The weekend

We had a visit from Dave’s friend Sarah over the weekend, who braved the overnight bus from London to come and see us. On Saturday we went to St Andrews for lunch. Lillian enjoyed the cafe (except for the very loud hand dryer in the bathroom when I was changing her) then fell asleep in the stroller while we had a wander. Then she screamed all the way home, pausing only for distressing sobs before starting up again. Once we got home she was happy as could be, refused another nap, and had a grand time rolling around on the floor until bath time.

Dave and Sarah went and conquered two munros (some photos on flickr) on Sunday and Lil and I had a quiet day at home. Before Sarah left for her return overnight bus trip she took a rare photo of all three of us together:

Only two more weekends until we go away for Christmas!

Lillian’s first holiday

Dad and Pam are here and last weekend we all went away to the highlands. Lillian’s first holiday! We rented a self-catering cottage at Roy Bridge near Fort William. Check out the view:

Unfortunately the weather was not so good but we did manage to do a loop up to Mallaig, across to Skye on the ferry, over the bridge to the mainland again and back down to home. We also completed three jig-saw puzzles.

Dave, Lillian and I came home on Tuesday and Dad and Pam are returning tonight after seeing a bit more of Scotland.

Lillian handled the trip fantastically. She slept for most of the car journeys and also slept well in the big cot at the cottage. She’s now almost 7 weeks old and in the last week has become a lot more interactive and alert. We’ve had smiles! And gurgles! She especially likes having her nose tapped.

The health visitor is coming again next Tuesday and I will be very interested to find out what Lillian’s weight is now. She feels heavier each day and is starting to grow out of her smaller clothes.

I know you don’t really care about view photos so many more pics of Lillian are on flickr.

Two weeks and two days old update

The second week with Lillian has been fun. Dave was off work for the last three days of the week and the weather was pretty good so we managed to get out and about most days.

On Thursday we went for a drive to Anstruther and had lunch from the Anstruther Fish Bar. On this trip we learned our lesson about always packing a change of clothes for the little one. Lillian seems to love her car seat and falls asleep every time. It does look pretty comfy.

On Saturday we went up to Arbroath to visit some friends and check out their house renovation progress. Lillian again slept most of the time, woke for a feed and then went back to sleep.

Sunday we had the lovely Jo and Dirk visit with a friend and we actually ate out at a cafe. Lillian, you guessed it, slept the whole time in the sling on Dave.

With all this daytime sleeping I was a little worried she wouldn’t sleep at night but she is pretty consistent so far and after a cranky period in the evenings (usually right when we’re trying to eat dinner) she settles into three hour sleep stretches during the night.

We’re now into week 3 already. Dave is back at work most of this week so Lil and I are working out our sleep, eat, change, sleep routine.

We’re looking forward to Beck coming to visit next week and in a few weeks Dad and Pam too.

She is stirring now so I think we’re up to eat!
