Camping

Over the weekend we went on our first camping trip as a family to attend a farm-warming at our friends’ property. They have a shed, a pit toilet and will soon have electricity. They also have a most excellent view.

We borrowed a tent and some sleeping mats, spent all Saturday morning preparing and packing, and finally arrived. The tent took a little figuring out but we got there in the end with only a few ant bites inflicted on me in the process.

Lil took off with the other kids soon after we arrived and we barely saw her again all weekend. She wants to live there in the tent forever. Ed hung around a little closer but also had a great time.

Once it got dark the kids were asleep pretty quickly and we followed soon after. The next morning we visited a nearby creek for a dip to cool off in the heat.

Lil impressed us with her fearlessness swimming around in the murky water and even in the “deep ends”. Her swimming confidence has recently soared once she realised she can reach the bottom in the shallow end of our local pool.

On the way home we had two very exhausted kids who were in bed asleep by 6.30 that night.
